Canadian Owned, Community FocusedAll of our hotels participate in their communities and here are a few highlights. In Winnipeg We took the Challenge – CancerCare’s Challenge for Life! Lakeview Hotels & Resorts sponsored a group of dedicated walkers from head office - the Lakeview ‘Suite’ Hearts. By participating in this event we committed to help reduce our own risk of cancer as well as collecting donations. We raised over $8,000 to support CancerCare’s work and the entire event raised over 1 million dollars! This year, more than 6,000 Manitobans will be diagnosed with cancer. That's 500 friends, family, colleagues and neighbours every month. It's a staggering number! While this event’s donations go to CancerCare Manitoba's comprehensive group of researchers and health, the research they do will benefit everyone. In Bathurst The Staff from Bathurst joined the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick in the Skate For Heart. It’s a non-competitive skating event for all skill levels, incorporating families, businesses and heart and stroke survivors. The event was focused on; increasing physical activity, nutrition, health, fun and fundraising. Heart disease and stoke are the leading cause of death in New Brunswick and this great event raised $19,000 with $700 coming from the Lakeview team! In Fredericton Lakeview Inn & Suites Fredericton is making a difference by hosting the Night of a Thousand Smiles organized by OPAL Family Services. For one night the Lakeview is turned over to Opal family and friends for entertainment, camaraderie, food and fun. “You just have to see the smiles out there to understand that it’s more than just a fundraiser” said Dave McArthur, general manager of the hotel. OPAL Family Services is a not for profit organization that offers respite care for families or care takers who are the legal guardians for persons with intellectual disabilities. Currently they service 135 families in Fredericton, Oromocto and the surrounding rural areas. “To date our 3 year total is in excess of $20,000, with a five year goal of $50,000. More than the money it raises, it gives an opportunity for these families to come together and share their common bond and allow their children, for one night out of the year, to have as much fun as possible, without being told they cannot do something!!” said Dave. “Lakeview Inn & Suites has been an important corporate sponsor of OPAL Family Services for many years and without it we would not have been able to develop and grow the Night of 1000 Smiles to the successful fundraiser that it has become. It is a truly unique fundraising activity as it simultaneously raises money for OPAL Family Services and proves a fun-filled night of family activity for the OPAL families” said OPAL Director Megan Doucette.
